The peacock as he struts around admires his own beauty. Murugan reminds us to control these impulses of pride and egoism. In his hand he holds the vel or sharp spear. He uses the vel to guard the spiritual progress of the world. The vel, flag and peacock are all cast separately and can be removed from the piece.
